Stress & Anxiety

Stress & Anxiety

We know that stress can take a toll on our bodies.

When you feel stressed or anxious, adrenaline courses through your veins, your heart beats at a rapid rate, and your breathing becomes quick and shallow.

Long term stress has a negative impact on your body and often leads to chronic illness, ill health, skin problems, digestive disorders, and allergic reactions.

But it also affects our brain, notably memory and clever thinking

How often when you are stressed do you find it impossible to think clearly ? If you have lost your car keys and are in a panic to get to work, or you are in an exam or presentation, and your brain goes into a fug and you just can’t seem remember the answers to the questions or the next point to discuss. This is because each memory is imprinted in our brains with a chemical signature or state, and the easiest way to retrieve those memories is to be in the same emotional state as when we imprinted them – i.e calm, relaxed and focused.

Research is now suggesting that stress also alters how we learn and a recent review article published in Current Directions in Psychological Science by University of Southern California researcher Mara Mather, PhD, suggests that stress alters our decision-making abilities.

Trouble Sleeping ? Sometimes before a big event or presentation, anxiety, nerves, plus excitement, can reach epic levels, and this can result in not being able to “quieten your mind” in order to fall asleep at night. This can leave your exhausted the next day – and even more stressed !

Panic attacks can leave you feeling out of control and unable to cope with life. They may happen at any time. People can also turn to inappropriate coping mechanisms such as drinking, smoking and recreational drugs which can just exacerbate the problem.

Hypnotherapy offers a natural and healthy way of relieving anxiety and stress, and improving the quality of sleep that you experience, and most clients also find that as a consequence of reducing their stress levels, their level of health, skin clarity, digestion improves, and sensitivity to allergens are significantly reduced.
